"Ella," Luke shouts from the doorway with more than a little frustration. Acting on reflex, I flinch out of my daydream. "Sorry," he rubs the back of his neck which makes his new shirt rise, exposing a smattering of hair above his jeans. He hasn't left since that day in the elevator so he's had to buy new clothes. My eyes flick to the exposed skin on their own then downwards a little. I clench my thighs at the bulge there. It's been a long time since I had sex and living with Luke seems to have woken desires I was sure were long dead. Everything about him just screams man and yet, he's not like any man I've ever met. "Your dinner is getting cold, love."
When I look up, his eyes are half-closed with unmistakable desire. Biting my lip, I push my plate away and cross my legs in an attempt to stop the throbbing between them. While we do flirt a little and cuddle, he has never tried to make a move which makes me think he isn't interested. Sometimes, I think he might be gay. Not because he hasn't tried to sleep with me. I don't have a good sense if someone is gay or not and I dare not ask him if he is and the subject hasn't come up.
"Sorry, I was spaced again, wasn't I?" I try to smile but then I notice he has his sneakers on. "Are you going somewhere?"
"Yeah, I have to go to the store, I won't be long."
"Want some company?" I ask but feel strange about it. We've spent every second together for two weeks and the thought of him leaving makes my stomach twist. What if he doesn't come back? Has he finally realised I'm worthless like Allen always told me and has decided to make a run for it? I look up at the smudge of yellow paint on his cheek and smile. He spent all afternoon painting my spare room for my little girl. Wouldn't let me lift a finger to help, either.
"That's ok, sweet, you relax I won't be long." He pulls a bunch of keys from his pocket and a wallet to check the papers in the back.
"What are you going for?" I sound like a child, a nosy one at that but I can't help but wonder what he needs that he didn't pick up already. The double bed in the spare room has been pushed against the wall so there's room for the crib and two sets of drawers. His are now filled with clothes and the top has aftershaves and other manly things. We haven't talked about it, but I guess he's moved in. I'm ok with that. More than ok.
"Just a couple of things. I'll get more breast pads too, I saw you're running low." He answers, darts across the room and quickly kisses my head. "I'll be quick." Before I can blink, he's at the front door.
"Luke,"
"Yeah?" His hand is on the handle.
